NATIONAL CONFERENCE ON ENDING HOMELESSNESS 2018-09-10T19:32:28+00:00

Project Description

National Conference on Ending Homelessness

To permanently end homelessness, we must both establish a multi-layered, rapid crisis response system and vastly improve access to affordable housing, according to Steve Berg, Policy Director for the National Alliance to End Homelessness.

In July, Heidi Alcock, Director of Grant Development & Communications for the McGregor Fund, attended the National Conference on Ending Homelessness, held in Washington, D.C. Conference participants discussed steps to build an effective response system that would kick in the moment individuals and families lose housing. These include low-barrier shelters, rapid re-housing strategies, system-building approaches, and unique strategies to support the needs of homeless families.

In addition to advocating for expansion of affordable, accessible housing, the conference made clear that “employment is a key intervention”; diverse organizations are increasingly seeking to build partnerships to effect change; and homeless services must address racial disparities and race discrimination in their work.
